Cloud computing
Cloud computing is a way of using applications on the internet rather than the applications on your computer itself. This has quite a lot of advantages of the basic computing we know in which a program is on a computer and we can only use it if it is installed on that computer. However with cloud computing the only thing you would probably need is a computer with a web browser that has access to the internet and with this we can use applications on the web that are in some ways equal or can be just as good to the one pre installed in computers.
In a cloud computing system the cloud is usually what the internet is described us this also means that the software or application are available through the internet and it is hosted on the `the server or computers that host that website. This also means that you can save your file on the web and get access to it whenever you have internet access anywhere in the world. Because of this any computer can perform cloud computing this is also much cheaper than buying many copies of software which can cost a lot whereas cloud computing applications are usually free.
Because the software and even files are hosted on another computer the hardware the computer will need will not have to be that good for example it doesn’t have to have a large hard disk capacity as well as a lot of processing power as the applications are easy to run. In many ways cloud computing has many advantages over the usual programs that we use on the computer however pre installed programs can sometimes be a lot more complete than cloud computing programs which can sometimes limit the user.
Here are a few applications that can be used by cloud computing:
Creating a presentation file by Google docs (http://docs.google.com)
Login with your Google account (if you don’t have one just create one it’s free) and after that you click the “create new button” which is a drop down menu in which you should choose presentation. This program is similar to that of Microsoft power point in terms of editing slides however Microsoft PowerPoint has a lot more features .
Build a .doc file also by Google docs (http://docs.google.com)
Similarly like before but this time instead of create new presentation it’s create new document. Just like Microsoft word you just type up the document and save it onto your account and you can have access to the file anytime you log in.
Build a form survey (http://docs.google.com/)
Google docs has a lot of applications to offer and one of them is to create a form survey the applications works similarly to the ones above.
Upload files for free with media fire (www.mediafire.com)
With media fire you can upload a file (max 2gb for each) however the online amount of storage is unlimited and you can upload an unlimited amount of files. You can upload with or without an account but it will be more organized if you do have one.
Share your files with others with windows live sky drive (http://skydrive.live.com)
In order to gain access to this application you have to have a windows live account or a hotmail email with this application you can upload your files to a virtual folders that other people with live accounts can view (e.g. people in your contacts list). You can choose whether to make your files public or personal in which only you can access it. People who can view your files can download it o have full access to it and any type of file can be uploaded and stored online.

Review on computer assembly lesson

In this lesson of basic computer we learnt about the hardware assemble in a desktop computer there was both a virtual and practical part to the lesson. First of all there was a net based software that gave us background information on assembling the computer.
The software is also practically a manual for people who are interested in assembling computers there are a couple of tasks that needs to be finished when assembling a computer. First of all the case itself is open next we install the power supply next we attach hardware such as the motherboard and the processor that goes with it. Next is installing internal drives such us a hard disk drive, external drives and internal adapters. Connecting the internal cables as well as putting the case back on the computer comes next and last but not least starting up the computer to see if it actually works. Each of these tasks are explained in detail within the flash software. For example before starting the job the workspace should be a clean place, it also explains the different ways a case can be removed amongst other things. It also gives you step by step instructions on how to perform these tasks as well as safety precautions such as wearing an anti static wristband to prevent shock.
The next part of the lesson was to explain the different types of hardware that are in the computer a pupil had to go up and explain the many types of hardware that are available and in different sections as well here’s a brief description of some of the hardware discussed . the CPU or central processing unit is the main processing unit that processes all the inputted information and outputs or stores them there is a fan attached to it to prevent it from overheating. There is also the power supply that you directly connect to a power socket in order to power the computer. Other internal hardware includes the ram which stores memory for a short amount of tie (not permanent). There are also internal adapters such as a graphics card that allows you to connect your computer to a monitor and it will out put the images there is also a sound card for connecting speakers and a network or Ethernet card that enables you to have wireless or cable connections to a network or a modem for internet access. There is a hard disk drive that stores permanent data. External drives include an optical drive for a CD or DVD as well as a floppy drive for floppy disks. Internal cables are also covered such as FATA and SATA cables.
An actual computer was brought in the class room, this was the practical part of the lesson as we were told to take apart the hardware in the computer and the challenge was to try and assemble the computer again so that it is able to work and start up. It was very interesting to see the inside of the computer and we could take out the hardware one by one and see what was going on such as the ram and the hard disk as well as the connections made from the power supply to the hardware. This further helped us in increasing our knowledge about computer hardware and assembly.

Virtual laptop review

Virtual laptop is a website based program that allows us to take things (such as hardware) out from the laptop and get a better view of it is very useful as it also shows us how removing some parts would be like as well as connecting the cables there are different sections in which there are hardware on the virtual laptop. First of all there is the underside layer this layer has the hard disk drive (for storing data) the random access memory as well as the battery. All the hardware in the underside layer is very useful as without any of them the laptop might not be able to work. Also by using this interactive software it allows us to take the parts off one by one and how to do it as well. For example when taking the battery out we have to click on both slots then the battery will go out similarly for RAM which requires us to unscrew the ram access panel and then we can remove the RAM. For the hard disk drive we have to unscrew the drive to get it out and remove the casing as well. Next up is the top and sides layer this layer contains all the things that allows you to put information in or even out put things by the different hardware and sockets that are on it. This layer has the optical cd drive and the pc card slot usually there should also be usb slots here it’s a very simple task to remove the pc card and the optical drive and in virtual laptop u are shown how to. Afterwards there is the docking station where you can dock your laptop and it can be charged as well from there. Also there are also other slots that you can connect your laptop to from the docking station such us USB slots and express card slots. Finally there is the external cable layer here you can connect output device like keyboard and mouse to your laptop amongst other things this is located at the back side of the laptop not under it. From this section you can connect your power cable in which you can charge your laptop by connecting it to its adaptor. There is also an Ethernet cable socket that you would need to connect your laptop to a network or even a modem for internet access. There is a monitor cable that you can connect your laptop to another monitor or even a projector for bigger displays. There is also a keyboard and mouse cable that you can connect those hardware into in addition there is a printer, USB and microphone sockets which can be connected by the hardware respectively. In virtual laptop there is also 2 other sections the test sections allows you to assemble all the parts of the laptop by yourself and the explore section explains to you what the parts that can be removed is. In conclusion I think that virtual laptop is a fun and interactive way to learn about a laptop , its hardware in particular, it is also a handy manual on the common parts of the laptop as it explains the purpose of the things there .

How computers changed the world today?

Computers were made to make human lives easier and believe it or not it has in some ways achieved that. At first it was only used to open codes or make calculations but nowadays there are a lot of uses for computers. First of all we can use computers for work for example writing this essay on the computer would be better than writing it by hand as not only is it neater and easier to edit it can also be saved as well as making backups of this work. However if this essay was hand written it would be very hard to correct the mistakes and if one copy was lost we have to start over, because of this using a computer would be a better choice for writing this essay. This also leads to why computers are more useful in offices because of a couple of reasons. One of them being it saves space since in offices there are a lot of papers and files however on a computer it is also stored on one hard disk and that does not take up an entire room. Also backups of the files can be made so if they are lost they are easy to recover in addition searching through a whole pile of papers is hard and takes a lot of time but with a computer it can take a couple of seconds to look for a file. This shows that using computers will be reliable.

Computers are also very useful in the realworld for example they make accurate calculations whereas a human can make mistakes a computer is designed not to. Also it does calculations for the person which saves all the effort. Computers can also model out results so if you were creating something you would see what it would be like (by a simulation) so you do not have to create it and make a mistake you can see the mistake first before creating it this can save a lot of time effort and even money so that is why it is a good thing. This is why in engineering computers will be useful as engineers are involved in creating a lot of things and there is no room for error.

Computers are also good for personal uses for example with communication, an email will be sent a lot faster than sending something by post similarly you can chat with someone online and even thought they are far away they will reply to you instantly. Some websites such as face book allows you to see photos of other people and keep in contact with all your friends. Computers can also be used to play games for entertainment as well as looking at websites to get information on anything. There are also other things you can do with the internet such as shopping and online banking so people do not have to go out to do these things anymore but instead all they have to do is sit at home in front of a computer.

But not everything about a computer is good there are also bad things about it. People will spend more time on a computer than going out and doing exercise for example this can make their lives very unhealthy they will also be less social with real people as they think that their false life online makes them a better person. Computers will also make people lazier as they will expect it to do more things for them and this is not good for society.

In conclusion I think computers have impacted the world in a good way but there are also negative things about the computer that can be avoided and it is up to us decide what is good and what is not.
